Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary was pleased to present Advent: A Season of Prophecy, Politics, and Practice." This four-week course led by well-known scholars Randall C. Bailey, Ph.D., and Tony McNeill, D.W.S., provided a safe place for worship leaders, clergy, church musicians and lay leaders to learn the radical significance of Advent and ways to use it as a tool for spiritual formation for their congregations.
The course challenged experienced worship planners and clergy to explore various dimensions of Advent using the lenses of sociology, gender/sex, race, class, and politics. The course also provided a biblical, historical, and practical context for planning, leading worship that has a particular focus on justice.
An additional goal of the course was to cultivate a community of learners who will share in each others' ministries and engage additional learning opportunities together.
A bibliography and detailed listing of resources was provided.
