JCSTS' curriculum strives to deliver 16 core competencies to its learners. Each of the seminary's programs focuses on three to five of these competencies.

  3. Communicate the gospel effectively to a variety of people in a variety of settings

  4. Embody theology through ethical action

  5. Interpret and lead change

  6. Manage conflict

  7. Lead worship experiences that connect people with the Divine and the world

  8. Articulate shared vision

  9. Act entrepreneurially

  10. Develop proficiency in technology and 21st forms of communication

  11. Steward financial, personal, and spiritual resources effectively

  12. Listen to and interpret culture of church and community

  13. Collaborate with individuals and organizations to build capacity for long term systemic change

  14. Equip staff and members to live justly

  15. Work to establish just ecologies of community

  16. Organize for community transformation
